What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are an exciting new way to extend the length and thickness of your eyelashes. They are applied on a hair-by-hair basis to your own eyelashes for a completely natural look.

How long will the eyelash extension procedure take?

Be sure to set aside at least two hours for your first appointment. A PrettyGirlsMakeFaces artist will meticulously apply the extensions one eyelash at a time, and there is no rush for your beautiful results!

Will my lashes get damaged and fall out if I get eyelash extensions?

Properly applied individual eyelash extensions on a one by one basis will not damage your natural lashes.

Do I need to be tested for any allergy to the glue?

You do not need to be sensitivity tested because the glue doesn’t come into contact with your skin; the extensions are applied about 1mm off your natural lash line. Please feel confident that application causes no damage to your natural lashes.

What do they look like?

That’s up to you! Everyone is unique so you could have natural looking lashes that look like two coats of the best mascara, or something longer, thicker and more dramatic. Either way, the look is based upon what you want and what your natural lashes can take, but will always mean something more luscious and lifted than you have now.

How long do they last?

The average natural lash line has three lengths of lash, a very fine baby one that cannot take the weight of an extension, a mid-length lash that will be growing for another three to four weeks and a full length lash that could fall out at any time. It is estimated that we lose about 4-8 eyelashes per eye per day, usually it’s the longest lashes that shed to allow a new baby hair to come through. A good Eyelash Extension Technician is aiming to attach the lash extension to your mid-length lash to ensure a good 3-4 weeks of owning the lashes. Sometimes, if your lash growth is slow these last up to five weeks, it’s a very personal and we won’t know your lash cycle until you have owned and lived with them for a while. If you had a set applied and did nothing more, you could expect to lose the whole set within approximately 6 weeks. However you will want to maintain them in which case when you notice a decline thickness of your lashes it’s time for an infill, usually 3-4 weeks, to keep the lash line looking fabulous.

How should they be looked after?

Something this desirable is going to take some looking after, so once you have your luscious lashes, here are my tops tips for keeping them looking fabulous:- For the first 48 hours avoid heat and steam, ie sauna/steam rooms and solarium and also no showers/potentially steamy bathrooms for 5 hours after treatment, to allow glue to fully bond.

  • Do not use waterproof mascara or oily eye-make-up removers. These two are the enemies of your new lashes! Where possible avoid mascara altogether as this will save having to rub the extensions to remove the product.
  • Do not perm or use eyelash curlers
  • Do not pull the lashes or rub the eyes, if any lash becomes crooked, simply hook it onto its neighbor or carefully trim with nail scissors.
  • If possible try not to sleep on your lashes, so if you sleep on your front or you really snuggle into a pillow you may find your lashes become bent and tangled, you can remedy this by simply combing with a disposal mascara wand and straightening them out.

What can I do to prepare for my appointment?

Remember to come to your appointment free from any eye make-up we want to spend quality time applying your lashes.

I really want to try them but I’m also a little nervous in case there not for me can I try them out in some way?

Yes, with what I call a ‘Taster Set’ this uses a little under half of what a full set would be but gives you a good idea of what they feel like to wear, how easy they are to look after and how long they last with you.

Are eyelash extensions right for me?

Almost anyone can enjoy eyelash extensions, but if one or more of the following conditions applies to you, you may not be a good candidate for eyelash extensions:

  • You rub your eyes frequently. If you rub your eyes frequently just a habit, you may not be able to wear eyelash extensions.
  • You have highly sensitive skin. If you experience irritation around the eye area after using skin care or makeup, eyelash extensions may not suit you.
  • You are sick, have allergies or an eye infection. If you have a cold, sinus or allergy such as hay fever, please do not get eyelash extensions! They will not last a long time due to irritation and secretions from the eye area.
  • Your natural eyelashes are very curly. If your natural eyelashes are very curly you are definitely not a good candidate for eyelash extensions! Curly eyelashes tend to shorten the eyelash extension wear time. Generally with curly eyelashes, extensions may only last up to three days before they start to lift.
  • You do not have natural eyelashes. A person who does not have any natural eyelashes cannot wear eyelash extensions because there is nowhere to place them.
